Information Technology has emerged as one of the most significant sectors contributing to the Nation's growth in the last decade. The Prime minister has given a call to make INDIA an Information Technology superpower by the year 2008.

IT is tipped to be the key sector in the new Millennium. E-commerce and Internet are the two important developments in the field of Information Technology.

Besides NIC, a number of national level organizations like NIIT, TULEC, APTECH etc. are running training courses for the upcoming generation of the district.

NIC Raebareli district unit was estabilished in 1988, with an aim to provide relentless information Informatics services to the District Administration in planning and development. Ever since, the NIC centre has been helping the authorities by providing the necessary IT support in various important projects being run in the district.

In 1988, when the centre was started, the main  thrust was to train the district officials in making use of IT tools and spread the IT culture in the district. This played an important role in bringing about a sea change in the attitude of administration in making use of IT, with the right kind of support from administrators.
